 Subject: Black smoke and stutter

Excuse my ignorance but this is the first dodge ive owned and so far i cant get it dialed in.
1st. the truck blows black smoke when started then when under heavy acceleration
2nd. at best the truck gets 10mpg! its a 1997 v6 dakota 2 wheel drive auto (im sure it should get more!)
3rd. at stops the truck will stutter and idle high and low
ive cleaned the iac, about to change the bank 1 o2 sensor since check engine is on
can i move the timing? what is the timing set at??
any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can not set, move or adjust the timing.
Instead of guessing have you checked the codes since
you said the light was on?

those are the codes it threw
t/b sensor dirty
1st bank 02 sensor not working
dirty injectors,
i cant remember the actual code numbers but thats why i have done and will do what i said thats what the codes showed.

What are the actual codes you got? There are no codes for "t/b sensor dirty" or "dirty injectors".
It does sound like a bad O2 sensor.

ok, i changed the 02 sensor, had alot of black smoke i mean i tought i had turned it into a diesel!! this morning not much smoke if any, check engine light is still on. The small stutter is still going on, the truck does have brand new plugs wires rotor, heads where just rebuilt.....
any susggestions?
