Subject: 2004 V6 4x4 inner tie rod replacement IP: Logged
Message: A moment to rant.. Picked up the Chilton's from the library for my truck. Nothing on inner tie rods, and they claim the upper ball joints are part of the a-frame as a single part that cannot be serviced separately. Now I've seen Moog and every other replacement option come with bolts that you remove the riveted OEM upper ball joins and replace. I used to reference their guides in the past.. night and day for detail, quality.. yadda yadda.. ok.. my tantrum's over...
That still leaves me without a guide about what I might get into. There's play in the passenger inner tie rod. Not a complicated procedure, but still, I'd hate to go into this completely blind. Anyone know of a good guide, post, experience, or something I can go on? Are there machanisms almost guaranteed to break upon removal? Is there the super-secret dodge removal tool with offsets that guarantee you're gonna be cussing and swearing with 20 vicegrips attached to fixtures while your nerves are going to sleep in your back from the crawler you've been laying on for the past 4 hours? I've had dodge's all my life. I've done head gaskets, lower rod bearings, fuel pumps, brake lines / calipers, shocks/struts/springs, ball joints, wheel bearings, cv shafts, clutches, outter tie ends, and much more.. just never an inner tie rod on a dodge truck. Looks easy.. that's where touble usually starts for me.
Thanks everyone!
