Message: thought the valve cover gasket was bad on the driver side causing oil to leak on the block and header and causing it to smoke. but that was not the case. replaced the gasget but it still smokes. i dont see any leaks and was wondering if this could be a head gasket? any ideas? no smoke comes out of the tail pipe just right there behind the header.

Message: Josh, I would check the oil sending unit, its at the back next to the dist. It can leak and have oil going all over the rear of the engine and onto the exhaust. Just a possiblity. Mine did that once. If it is the oil sending unit, after you replace it be sure to go to a car wash and wash the oil off the rear of the engine.
Good Luck
