I was cruising the highway at 70 MPH with cruise on and my truck acted like it lost fuel. Cruise control shut off and when I pushed on the gas pedal, the truck seemed to bog down. There are no indicator lights or check engine lights on the dash and show any problems. I turn the key and the truck turns over, but won't catch when firing up. I had tow it home. I also noticed that I now have a transmission leak on my driveway. I'm not sure if the transmission leak is a side affect or the main problem. I removed the cap from the fuel rail and there is still gasoline.

Sorry, it seems my truck information didn't post to the forum with my first message. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 2WD Extended Cab.

Even though the CEL is not lit, you could still have a code. Check them, turn the key on/off/on/off/on and codes will display in the odometer as PXXXX and when it's finished or there are no codes it will display Pdone.

Check for spark - sounds like none .
Does 2001 still have a rotor in distributor ?
Check coil wire and connections .

Also check fuses. When you turn the key to ON do you hear the fuel pump and/or its relay?

Good to see you know how to spell your name.
Cheers

I had the same problem with my 98 3.9 shut off while driving. luckly I wasnt on the freeway, turned out it was my crank sensor that went out. Symptoms I had was lost of power while driving and would crank over but wouldnt fire till 10 to 15 min later it would start up like nothing ever happend. Have a diagnostic done to be sure.

my 96 does the same thing about once a year, replaced the crank sensor 2 times, then found out that if you unplug all connections that come out of the computer and use an electronic spray cleaner on them the darn thing starts and runs great, now I do this every six months, works great, truck has 180,000 miles on

Looks like the fuel pump was not working, so I replaced it and I'm glad that I did because it had alot of dirt and was partially clogged. I'm getting alot better pressure on the fuel rail. The truck still will not start. I pulled a spark plug and put the edge of it against the engine block to see if I had any spark, but I don't. I'm going to try pulling the connections to the computer and spray them with electronic cleaner to see if this solves the problem. I'm also getting a new crank sensor.

maybe conexões que saem do computador but
If it will be the computer will be the welds in the plate that are with badly contact. It asks for somebody to bind the engine while you are moving in plug of the computer to see if it is badly contact.

Jon what did you figure out? Did you get it working? I have the exact same problem. So far I've replaced the intake manifold, the gas tank, the fuel injectors, and now they think maybe I need to replace the computer. I'm at my wits end with this pile of junk. Can't sell it or trade it away and I can't seem to find a fix for it.

Right now my truck has started throwing codes for the O2 sensor. The transmission leak is fixed and not a problem anymore. The truck still runs really rough, so we'll see if the o2 sensor fixes the issue. I plan to also replace the spark plugs and wires.

Who in the world design the O2 sensor plugins and where they are at. The sensor connector is located directly above the transmission and between the firewall. I can barely touch it with my hand let alone try to disconnect it. I'm going to try and take off the cap and spark plug wire to see if I can get more room to get to the stupid thing. what a major pain. To get the O2 sensor loose, I took off the driver's side tire and ran the truck for 10 minutes after I put some WD40 on it. Finally it came loose.
