Subject: Keeping the dak running good?! IP: Logged
Message: I'm 18 with little to no mechanic experience, (but with
common sense)... I have a 97' Dakota with 39k miles on it, I
inherited it from my father who recently passed,
I love this truck to death and I want it to last as long as
possible. It's a v6 2 wheel dr 5speed manual. I put a k&n air
filter in it and always change the oil every 3k miles, It runs
great but I just want little tips here and there to keep the
engine running good. I'm curious about changing my spark
plugs, or just seeing if their in good condition. Any tips or
comments are greatly appreciated :) thanks

Message: Soory to hear about your loss Kyle. You've got a good start on keeping it up if your changing the oil like that.
First suggestion, spend the 20 bucks or so and get a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual from the local parts house. For someone with little to no experience, it can be an invaluable tool.
If you have the owners manual, check the maintenance schedule for what is recommended at your mileage. With a truck that's 13 years old even at low mileage, it's probably good to give it a complete tuneup anyway.
