Hi,
Purchased a power steering pump from Auto Zone, and it whined like a Bit**. took it back got other and that one whines like a Bit**.

Bleed the system and that did not stop the whine.

Any input? Auto Zone pumps or something else?

Never had a problems with any power steering pumps I have installed before.

You are sure it was the pump?

Did you turn/spin each pulley while the belt was
off?

Yes, the noise is coming from the pump.

ok Kirk

1st
Explain to me how you did or are bleeding the
system?

2nd
Have you checked with the belt on (side view)
to make sure the pulley/pulleys are all aligned
straight?

The belts & alignment of the pully are fine,
nothing wrong there.

Bleeding, tires off the ground turning almost to the stops and checking fluild level.
Also tryed breaking the high pressure line & letting fluid out. No sign of air bubbles or any else.

Ok only other thing I can think of is a partial
blockage or weak/collapsed line. Do the lines or
fluid seem to be heating up badly?

It is possible AZ has a bad batch of pumps, It's
rare but does happen. Just trying to help you rule
everything else out.

If your old pump "whined like a Bit**"
Then you can bet the problem lies not in the pump
but else where.

No the old pump never made any noise just started to leak, the hoses are new and not kinked. The steering is fine but noise is terrible.

Not very happy with AUTOZONE, the staff think they know everthing. I would of been better off going to a junk yard for parts.

I remember when I bought a everlast battery and had to return it after 3 months because the car would not turn over during a snow storm.

I tested the battery before I took it back but the dude with a 5th grade education said those batteries never go bad and was giving me a hard time, then after he tested it for 1/2 hr and found the battery bad I got a new battery and he stood there looking like a A**

Kirk ... Sounds like you might have a blockage in your power steering rack ... does the noise sound like the one you get when you crank the steering as far as it will go in one direction? What you can do to check the pump is to loop the pressure and return lines together bypassing the rack altogether ... if you still have a whine .. its the pump ... no whine then you have a problem with the rack. What fluid are you putting in the pump? Did you flush the rack before installing the new pump?
