Subject: Overheating -- Please Help!

Hello Everyone,

I just finished replacing my lower radiator hose on a 2001 Dakota because i felt that it was getting too old. However, after replacing it my truck now begins to overheat. It was working fine before replacing it. Any ideas?

What you do is "bleed the system". Here are the steps. For best results have the heater on full blast and do it on a unlevel surface where the radiaor is the highest in the air. It doesn't need to be to high but it helps. It takes about a good solid 20 minutes to do because you have to wait for your engine to warm up to operating temperature
1. open the hood and take the radiator cap off
2. start you truck and let it idle
3. wait for the thermostat to open (you'll see the coolant drop in the radiator)
4. top off the radiator with coolant and while you're at it fill the resivour to the corect level
5. Put the radiator cap on
6. and tada you've bleed your coolant system

Can you also get an air bubble in the system from changing out
the thermostat? My 99 Dodge Dakota sport overheats when I
drive for long distances and when I put any stress on the engine
like going up hills or even using the AC. I have a 99 Dodge
Dakota Sport, V6 Magnum.

might be a good time to flush the system and ad new
coolant.
(by flushing I don't mean just running water through
it)

If you're going to flush the coolant, go ahead and buy a new tstat because then you save yourself from buying more coolant to do the tstat if that's the problem. And since they're a few bucks you wont break the bank

@-@ radiatior drain plug is on this side
at the bottom. (right side facing toward the truck)

front of truck
After u drain it, plug the drain plug back in.
And fill up the reservoir and the hose
making sure all the air is out, u will notice it spurts
out the air.
Lastly turn on the truck and fill her up again until
she is good. Running the truck as u fill up the
hose will get rid of the air in there.
And there ya go. :)
as for the guy with the dodge sport....
Overheating can be alot of stuff....
Maybe ur water pump just got old,
or the thermostat u put in sucks...
Lol make sure u didn't put that
thermostat in backwards. :P

Before you go to too much trouble, unless it needs it, change the coolant and the tstat. First, make sure the cooling fins on the radiator and the a/c condenser are clear of any debris that would hinder airflow. Then check the fan clutch. If it's not engaging properly that could be the problem.

Are you losing any coolant? If you are, it could be the radiator cap is not holding pressure or there is another leak somewhere in the system.

Say wha?
