Subject: I have no heat IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1993 Dakota Sport, v6 2wd automatic trani, and it has a little over 150,000 miles on it. My problem is that the heater doesn't work. It blows but it isn't hot but if i rev the engine up to 3000 rpms it's nice and hot. I've checked the coolant in the radiator and it's full. It has had a new radiator 2 years ago, a new water pump 1 year ago, and last week a new thermostat, sepatine belt and tensioner and a new radiator cap. Any suggestions because it's cold outside

Message: I tried the back flush this afternoon and it didn't work. I've concluded that the heater core is shot. I'll try that and hopefully for the love of God this works because I'm tired of putting parts into my truck.

Message: Before you do anything just try this. I made sure it was the heater core that needed replaced. First get your truck nice and hot. With the heater turned on full blast, go to the engine. WHere you see the two hoses going into the fire wall, you need to feal them. The top one should be hot and the bottom one should be warm but not anywhere near as hot as the top one. If that's the case for your then it should be the heater core. If there both hot or both warm then it's something else

Message: Yeah on mine all the fan does work and at all speeds. I just got done replacing the heater core and now the heater does work. YEAH! But the only thing that doesn't work now is the temperature gauge. It worked before i took everything apart and when i allowed the truck to warm up and open the thermostat the guage never moved. Any suggestions?

Message: look next to where the heater hose goes into the top of the engine. Next to there should be the temp sensor. When I flushed my hc out, i accidentally unhooked the sensor. It can also have the terminal corrode off.It should look like a screw sticking up.

Message: This must be a common problem around 150000. Mine needs to be flush cuz it blow cool air all the time. New rad and thermostat. But it dont really matter cuz it needs a tranny anyway

Message: You may need a new water pump. My heat went out last year and replaced the water pump and it worked great... until this year at least. Also did you bleed the system when you replaced the thermostat? If you didn't that is probably one of the causes.

Message: "reversed haeter hoses still no heat"
Yeah that will work great
That way all the junk that blocked the heater core
Will now get into the entire system and start by blocking the radiator & continue from there

Message: I own a 97' dakota with 150000 miles on it. The heat blows slightly warm when it sits at idle.Once i start driving however it turns cold. The heat gauge only moves toward hot about a quarter of the way at the warmest. I have completely flushed the system and replaced the thermostat. I was told to replace the water pump but I wanted to check opinions before spending the cash.

Message: You may have air trapped in the system. When you flushed the system did you bleed the system? If you didn't what you need to do is have your truck run, with the radiator cap off and let the truck warm up until the thermostat opens up and you'll see bubbles come out of the top of the radiator. Try that and if that doesn't work it may be the water pump or the heater core.
