Subject: No throttle response until warmed up?? IP: Logged
Message: 93 Dak (V6, auto, 239,000) has trouble starting and running when cold. If I let it warm up 5 - 10 minutes have no problems. If I try to drive immediately will not rev higher than about 1300 rpms and will not respond to the throttle? I didn't floor it but nearly. When I got truck 2 years ago would not run. Found loose sensor ring under distributor and repaired. Ran great until recently. Have not done any work underhood, on engine etc... Started out of the blue. I have already checked the following: Throttle body removed and cleaned (not very dirty cleaned 2 years ago while troubleshooting), checked all vacuum hoses for visible cracks (replaced one into the throttle body - no help) TPS replaced 2 years ago along with IAC. This truck has no other problems whatsoever (ie everything works as designed). I was going to check fuel pressure next while cold but don't really have any other ideas where to look. Any help appreciated.

Message: This may be due to the engine temp sensor. This is NOT the temp gauge sending unit.
This is on the RF of the intake and tells the ECU the temp of the engine so it can adjust timing and a/f ratio. It has 1 wire leading to it. It sounds like it is stuck in the warm position and is always telling the ECU the engine is warm. When it's cold the ECU is leaning out the a/f mixture.

Message: Yes they do! Your local dodge dealer has them but pricy, Rock auto has a better deal but shipping is involved. Give e-bay a shot its probaly best to get a new or used one, unless you have the tools to drill and pin and small bearing tools available. Remember take off neg. bat. clamp prior to start.....Have fun...

Message: The drive gear and bushing is available at most parts stores, and No you do not have to change the whole distributor.

Message: Thanks. I've done some research on this problem and have been told it takes a special tool to replace the bushing. I believe they were speaking of the bushing in the block that corresponds to the one on the distributor. Is that true to your knowledge? I was also told the corresponding gear that drives the oil pump needs to be repalced also and this is a hassel....drop oil pan, remove oil pump, etc... I also heard if I rotate the distributor CCW very very slightly it may stop the problem for now. Would you recommend doing this temporarily ( a few weeks)? until I can get parts together and do it(this is my daily driver..)Thanks again for all help.

Message: dakdudems yes the bushing is pressed into the block. With the tool it's pretty easy to remove. Check your local parts stores for tool loaner or rental programs. As for the drive gear it's a pressed pin I used a finish nail and carefully tapped mine out.
