Message: I'll take a stab at this, since you didn't say what year it is, if it has a little roller on one end, it goes down, if it has a flat spot with no holes, it goes down.then what ever is on the other side goes up.
Good luck

Message: Sorry i left out those details. The truck is a 97 with the 3.9. I noticed the oil holes in the block were on the bottom but i could have sworn the small pinhole on the lifter was facing upwards towards the manifold.

Message: awesome, thats what i thought. thanks for the help. also what do you mean by alignment yokes. do you mean that small bracket with the 2 holes that hold the lifters down and keep them from spinning? if so i dont actually recall seeing arrows, im pretty sure they had numbers on them though. i made so the numbers were all facing towards the front of the truck. thanks again
