need to make a decision soon - 92 LE V6 with 72K miles needs new oil pan (too many rust leaks) and needs all new brake components front/back - radio does not work - no body rust, original bed liner and running boards - bought from original owner neighbor for $100 - has been driven 2500 miles since 2007 - have a mechanic friend who thinks can fix - should I spend the money or junk - thanks for your input on previous messages - good site!!

You're not talking about a whole lot of money for those repairs. I would much have a used one owner truck like that than buying something new. If anything you could use it as a DD or as a spare should something happen to your DD.

I forgot to add that I just replaced both rear wheel cylinders and rear brakes on my '00 with all the incidentals for less than 60 bucks. For under 300 bucks you could replace the whole brake system yourself.

thanks for the input daddio - I'm going to get the verdict this weekend from the friend on the oil pan - you are correct, I can get a new pan and gasket for $90 but am concerned on the axle drop, or engine lift etc. to access the pan - things look a bit rusty.

I'm glad we don't have those rust problems down here in the deep south. Just get plenty of penatrent like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench and soak all those rusty bolts a couple of days before tackling that project.

If possible, I would definitely try lifting the engine before removing that front axle. This is from an '01 FSM. It doesn't say if it's for a 2wd or 4x4.

OIL PAN
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
(2) Remove engine oil dipstick.
(3) Raise vehicle.
(4) Drain engine oil.
(5) Remove exhaust pipe.
(6) Remove left engine to transmission strut.
(7) Loosen the right side engine support bracket
cushion through-bolt nut and raise the engine
slightly. Remove oil pan by sliding backward and out.
(8) Remove the one-piece gasket.

About a month ago we had like 6" of snow it melted
and now we have none

The poor dear hunters

we have very bad rust probs up here in northern
wisconsin

I have replaced the line that runs from front to
back twice now and all the other brake lines
once now, in the last 2 years my front fenders
have gotten vary rusty

Got the truck in dec 1994 so it will be 15 years
this dec and it sat outside for the first 5 years
than I kept in in a garage but now it is back
outside again because I bought another car that is
taking the garage space now but a 30 year old
collector car is just more important right now

I need another garage LOL
