Subject: California model to a reg model IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dakota 3.9 4x4, I have been having so many problems with engine codes mostly o2 sensors and catalytic converter codes, I found out the truck is California model is there a way to convert to a regular Dakota since I do not live in California. I have already replaced the pre cat and reg cat and all 6 o2 sensors two years ago and now I’m receiving the error p 0432 what crap, should have never gotten rid of my 94 Dakota, To much electronic BS on this truck

Message: What is called the "California" emissions package is not just for those living in Cali. There are at least 17 other states with the same emissions requirements. You would likely pay much more to convert than you would save in haveing the federal emissions package. You'd need the Fed PCM, probably have to have that flashed for your truck (and I'm not even sure that's possible, might not flash to a Cali v.i.n.); and then you'd have to change any different parts, including number of cats and wiring. Probably wouldn't make sense to change all that stuff that doesn't need changing; as even the federal models have similar electronic systems. Everything newer is more complicated, not just the cali models. My Cali package '00 truck in MA hasn't had any issues - Fed cats are just as susceptible to problems from too much hydrocarbons as Cali models.

Message: You may just need a PCM flash. There have been several updates released by Chrysler to deal with this issue. You should not be charged for this.
