I broke one of the bolts holding down the distributor cap so I need to repair/replace the distributor. How hard is it to get out, it looks pretty tight in there, is there enough room to pull it with the engine in the truck?

Thanks.

I am assuming your distributor is at the rear of the engine...??
Alot of grease tends to hide back there, so if you have a chance
to blast it with light degreaser before distributor removal, you
have less chance of gunk falling into your motor.
remove the cap and wires from the distributor (and please note
the direction of ignition rotor, and scribe a mark on the
distributor base with the engine block....you wanna re-install
the distributor the way it came out) There is a U shape hold
down clamp for the distributor....you will need a 1/2" or 9/16
flex socket to remove the ONE bolt, the hold down clamp may
need a little nudge to remove. Disconnect the electrical
connector and your distributor is ready to pop out, it may need
a good tug to remove, just be smart as to the way you yank!!

Thanks 92dakotabasta, when I was looking at it, it looked awfully tight to lift out.

I should have mentioned in my original post that it was for a 2000 3.9l Dakota.

I'm used to working on older full sized chevys that have enough room for a 3 ring circus under the hood.

Thanks.

Don't forget about the "B" series 350-361-383-400 and the "RB" series 383-413-426-440. All front mounted distributors.
