Subject: 19# ford injectors help IP: Logged
Message: Its been 500 miles since i have switched from the stock injectors to
the 19# ford orange top injectors( remanufactured). i was getting
around 19Mpg b4 i switched them and now i am getting 15.8 over
the 500 miles. when the truck is cold and i shift from either 1st to
2nd or 2nd to 3rd( shifting at 1800 rpms) it is real sluggish like no
power and i get a knocking sound. Is there something i could have
done wrong when i switched them? i think i am gonna put the old
ones back in to see what happens. once it is warmed up it seems
fine but gets bad gas millage. Thanks

Message: I know you bought 19 lb injectors
My question,
Are you sure they sent you 19lb?
(almost sounds like 21lb injectors were installed)
Also, did you buy new or used?
Lastly,
Have you checked to see if you're getting any codes?

Message: no codes. they are orange top. i think that 21lb injectors are a
different color. ( not positive though). they are remanufactured
injectors, but they are supposed to be like new.

Message: #19 or #21 doesn't really matter. The PCM is going to adjust fuel rate depending on what mix is O2 sensor is reporting. The pound rating of injectors is the maximum they can put out it doesn't mean they will dump more fuel into the system. And I believe in the 2002 they started installing #21 in the V6 3.9. My concern would be the "orange top" and "re-manufactured" part. Where did you get them and did they come with a warranty ? And yes the orange tops are #19 injectors. I would clear the PCM and drive as "normal" as you can for the first 100 miles or so and see what happens.

Message: I would try and reset the PCM and try again. They did switch to # injectors in 2000 but as Forseti stated, the PCM can control that to an extent. I mean, If you put in 36# or 50#, you would probably run into trouble.
Have you checked for any leaks on the fuel rail and injectors? Have you checked for codes?

Message: either you pluged them in wrong or you have a leak
did you use some oil on the o-rings before you instaled them
a knock would be from a lean out condition from
a leak
I have never seen one get worse mileage with the
#19 they were always better
