Subject: Larry - Changed Egr Valve now this... IP: Logged
Message: Ok Larry......
Out of all the list of fixes you gave me, changing the EGR valve seemed the only one that was straight forward, and something not too complicated.
SO, I picked up the part from Autozone. I took the old EGR valve off. Put the new one on....While I was doing the work, I disconnected the battery too.....that way, I figured I would clear the codes and could see if I had indeed made that ONE error code go away.
So, LOL, I changed the part. Easy. Hooked batter back up, and went for a spin. NOW.....I kid you not, I have a "popping" sound on acceleration.
Think back when you were a kid. Remember when you put a card in between the spokes of your wheels so it would make a clicking sound as you went faster and faster? Same deal here. That's EXACTLY what it sounds like.
At idle, you don't hear it.....on acceleration, you hear it, and the faster you go, the faster the clicking sound. IT WAS NOT MAKING THIS NOISE BEFORE I CHANGED THE PART!!!!!!
So, I got to looking....and I found that I had failed to install the EGR Valve "gasket".....
So I thought, "That has to be the problem"
So today, I took the EGR back off, and installed the gasket.....tightened the bolts really well...and went off for a little test drive.
The clicking is still there, very noticeable, however, it doesn't seem to be as bad as it was before. And for the record....I no longer have error code 32. The code is gone. So , apparently, I really did need a new EGR.
What in the world is this noise????????? Thank you Larry.

Message: Did you check and match the numbers on the EGR valves?
It wouldn't be the first time AZ gave someone the wrong part.

Message: I understand in theory what you are saying.....
In practice , I have no idea how to do this.
I gather I get the part off the box...make sure somehow the part matches the box.....but then match that to what?????
Anyone wanna tell me what the part SHOULD BE?
95 Dak. 2 Wd. 3.9L V6.
Thank you all very much in advance. The error code is gone, but the noise is aggrevating.
I find it to be an EXTREME coincidence that the engine was NOT making this noise immediately before I changed the EGR. I then changed the EGR and now I got noise....but no error code. LOL.
Welcome to my world gentleman. I tell you one thing I am going to do....I am going to put the OLD EGR valve back on this weekend, and see if the noise miraculously goes away.....

Message: To the last question.....the pipe....
The pipe part I understand....however this answer is two fold.
1) The pipe does not connect directly to the EGR valve that I replaced. It connects lower. Only reason I mentioned this is because I had one of my shop mechanics look at it today and he said sometimes that "pipe" hooks directly to the EGR valve. mine does not.....which leads me answer #2
2) No, I am not certain, beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is seating up, or fitting perfectly. However, I am certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was extremely careful when I removed the old EGR valve. I mean it's two bolts for goodness sakes. (not to be rude at all, I'm just frustrated and NOT at you)
It's just 2 bolts. I used the correct socket, a socket extender, and was "gentle" when removing the bolts. I unplugged the the little electrical do-dad , and the 2 vacuum lines, and whatever that other little piece is. I was very careful taking it off cause I wanted to be sure I was putting the new one ON, the same way I had taken the old one off. Lol.
I just don't see that as being possible. That I somehow damaged that pipe. However, I will check it. And perhaps get a wrench and give it a little tightening twist just to be sure.
The mechanic that listened to it "clicking" said it was "exhaust" of some nature.
I wish there was a way I could set off some kind of smoke bomb inside the engine so I could see where the leak is. LOL. (is there such a thing?)
Any more ideas? Keep em coming. Please until this is solved. Thank you. Will have to wait until the weekend to put the old EGR valve back on to see if the noise stops. If the noise does stop at that point.....Don't know what I'm gonna do. LOL.

Message: Your mechanic says it some kind of exhaust leak....
EGR-exhaust gas recirculation
That pipe from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold gets
hot...it expands and contracts...check around the pipe maybe u see
some exhaust sut...??

Message: And you're sure you put the vacuum lines back in the correct configuration? Did you replace just the EGR valve or the transducer also?

Message: About the pipe. Yeah, I will check it, tighten it and make sure.
I am 99% sure the lines are in the correct configuration. There's a very very short line that connects to the back of the egr valve, closest to to the dashboard so to speak.
The second line connects to the top of the EGR valve and is longer. Quite a bit longer.
And I can only assume the trasducer is the little black "thinga magig" that the two vacum lines connect to. Correct? It has some sort of electrical plug in it correct? Yes, I replaced that too. It was a kit.

Message: there is also a gasket on the other end of the
tube on the exhaust manifold that may be bad or a
crack in the feed tube check this out
The egr will not make it pop sounds like a leak
