Subject: Blower Motor Help IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1994 Dak with 245,000mi. The blower motor has a few quirks. At first it seemed to only work on high. I replaced the resistor in the firewall and it did not help. I met someone who had a similar problem and he suggested replacing the bulkhead connector at the resistor with new connectors. I did this with no luck.
Here's where the quirks start. I would be running down the road with the fan on high, and the fan would just stop. I would reach over and tap the bottom of the dash on the passenger side, the fan would move slowly(with fan switch still on high). If I would stop and turn the truck off for a few minutes, when I restarted it, the fan sometimes came back on full.
A few days ago, I took off and needed the defrost. When I turned the fan on it ran strong. I got to my destination, stopped for a few minutes, took off again and no fan.
When I bang on the bottom of the dash, the fan sometimes comes on slow/sometimes fast.
Anything I can check? How much of a pain is it to replace the blower motor?

Message: Rock, look under the passenger side dashboard. you should see a ( Wire ) that attaches to a plug, it the power for the fan, sometimes it gets corroded or Loose. play with that plug and see if the fan turn on and or off. Good luck.

Message: Thanks for the help Jim. I will check that when I get home. I am confused how the fan will slow down to the point that it is barely turning. I would think that if I had a bad connection at the power wire, I would have an ON\OFF condition.
My initial thoughts were something in the fan causing a resistance to turning. I also considered that at 245K the blower motor was tired, dirty, dried out, etc.
I can't find any resources online for getting to the blower. I do not want to start taking things apart and get in over my head. Can anyone give any advice about replacing a blower fan for this generation of Dak?

Message: Its not hard to replace at all. You will need to remove the kick panal under the steering wheel and the lower dash panel including the glove box. there is about 10 or so screws holding on the blower cover that u will have to search for but after that, all there is to remove is the blower wheel. i recommend just going and buying another one because theyre nearly impossible to remove wwithout breaking. other than that your just looking for a grey and green wire set thats a pain to route through the small hole in the back of the blower housing
