Subject: Rocker arms IP: Logged
Message: I am in the process of rebuilding a 95 3.9. I was wondering about a replacement camshaft. I have not been able to locate an aftermarket cam. Can I simply change the rocker arms to a different ratio to increase lift. My camshaft has some pitting on the journals so i need to replace it. Has anyone did anything similar? This is a total rebuild so I want to do it right. I am trying to remain as close to stock as possible but still achieve a little better performance. I have found the older exhaust manifolds and a larger throttle body. I have seen the articles about changing the injectors to the four hole instead of the one hole. I take it that change helps also.
When I took my heads into the machine shop yesterday for valve job the machinist says that these heads are bad about cracking under normal use. I have not seen anything on this board about this happening. I have never ported a set of heads before but was thinking of opening up the intake side a little to help breathe better. Do these heads need any help in that area? This is my first 3.9 build up so not sure what is needed. I want to remain as stock as possible but get a little better performance and fuel milage. Thanks for any advice.
