I have a 1998 4x4 Dak. V6 automatic and whenever the weather gets warm, my truck overheats into the 230 degree range. I haven't upgraded to the electric fan yet, but soon. I have new coolant and a whole bottle of water wetter running in there and I'm using the heater at full blast with my windows down to help with some of the cooling. I have a small leak in the radiator so I'm also using aluma-seal for it.

What else should I check?

Where can I get a double-row radiator?

Thanks.

You may have an air bubble under your thermostat not allowing it to realize its time to open. Is your upper radiator hose pressurized?

I think that as long as you have that leak you will be overheating. And I hope you know that the aluma-seal is only a band-aid to be used for emergencies. Your best bet is repair or replace the radiator. If you want a 2 row I remember reading somewhere about a Durango radiator with 2 rows being available that should fit right in place of your stock unit.

How is your clutch on your mechanical fan? It may be worn out also.

Mark, When the engine is hot, the upper seems to have some pressure.

Daddio, I am going to replace the radiator. Thanks for the tip on the Durango. I will check it out. If it still seems to overheat after that then I will take care of the fan.

Be careful lowering in the new radiator not to touch it on anything that would put a pin hole in it. :-)

Be careful when choosing an electic fan, i put one in my 98 v-6 and in the summer it runs alot hotter in stop and go traffic, even with the fan running full speed. Also might consider a 180 failsafe thermostat and change out both upper and lower radiator hoses if you've been running that hot for a while, no sense hooking up old hoses to a new radiator and having more problems.

I heard that the electric fans aren't sufficient too. Once I ordered a black magic (I think thats what it was called) But it didnt fit in front of my radiator. I am happy with the stock one, it never let me down. It is a pain in the butt to take off though. I have the 180 degree thermostat and the heat doesnt work too well in the winter.

Guys, I've been runnin' around in my '00 QC 3.9 5spd, here in the deep south for the last 5yrs with nothing but the stock electric fan and a 195 factory tstat. The only time my temp gage touches 210 is when I don't have the A/C on(which is almost never down here) idling. I lost that clutch fan a long time ago.

It's never come even close to overheating even idling in traffic in the hottest of summer.

I finally flushed out my cooling system that I have been clogging for 4 years with aluma-seal, and replaced the radiator, 16lb cap, 195 thermostat and filled it with a Dex-cool type coolant. I also added a Perma-cool 15" fan with adjustable sensor and probe. Everything works fine now.
