I have a 2001 dodge dakota sport, rwd, 3.9l engine, standard cab and bed.

what is the transmission rated at as far as horsepower and torque go? How much power can the transmission in its stock form, withstand?

I think in order to correctly answer your question we would need to know the type of transmission in question.

Auto? or Manual?

Its a A500 42RE

Just put a shift kit in it with the heavy duty
towing setup

call TCI tciauto.com for a kit
or use a transgo kit
around $100 for kits

This will handle 300 hp

with your 2001 you can also get the superchips
tunner that has a towing program and the RE being
elect gov control this will firm up the shifts
without doingg anything to the trans and give you
more power for towing

There are also many mods you can do to increase
hp and torque just do some searching on this board
they are all here many times over

well the issue is that im putting in a 408 stroker with a large cam, ported heads and intake, after marker throttle body, headers, and custom exhaust just to start with

so the trans cant handle what ima throw at it, but i have a 727 tf that i think ill use instead
