Subject: Wheel bearing help IP: Logged
Message: The other day, my truck started making a grinding noise that made me think the wheel bearing was going out. Sounds like a big mud tire, but only on left turns. Based on that, I'm wondering if anybody can help me guess which side has the bad bearing?
I was only able to get 1 hub assembly, and I've got a long drive to make before the second will come in. So I've only got one shot to replace the correct bearing before this trip.
Also, does anybody know where to find the spindle lock nut for these trucks? None of the parts sores have anything, and apparently my local dealership has gone out of business. Hard to believe this part does not exist... Can I just use a bunch of loctite on the old one?

Message: jack up each corner and, essentially, pull the
tire back and forth and see if it moves or shakes
at all. that's the primary sign of a bad or loose
wheel bearing. other than that, just get each
tire off and take a look at it.
when i replaced the bearing, i had to use the old
nut, too. my parts store didn't have anything
that size. you'll probably be fine to use it
again; at least i have been.

Message: I re-used mine too, no problems so far, been about 8 mo ago. easy to tell the bad one though i just jacked up the front end and spun the tires you can hear the bearings in the bad one.
