monday i getting a flowmaster 40 with duel pipes out back on my 01 club 4by,now i get a choice of tips, standard or 3 inch ones ,is there any sound differance ,or is it just looks?shopped around geyying the hole set up $250, thanks dakotamaxx

I have the standard ones with duals out the rear. I wish I would have gone with the 3" outlets. Don't know if it makes a difference, but I think it would look better.

Tips are just for looks. It doesn't change the sound. Your Flowmasters will get deeper after a couple weeks, then they really sound good! I have a 3" pipe to a 3" flowmaster to a 3" tail and a 4" tip, I love it. I can set off car alarms hehehe :)

i went to 5 shops and found one to do install for $250,one shop wanted $380 i than went to another. and iam getting the 3 inch tips that will be a extra $44,

I got mine done for $200.00 out the door, tips included (the smaller ones though). That is with splitting it to duals!! But I had to call alot of places for that price. I think my highest quote was around $420.00 and one place even said that it couldn't be done (splitting to dual exhaust out the rear, that is). If anybody lives in SoCal, I can tell you where I got it done.

did you get true duals? i am going to redo mine and get true duals this time....i have the 40 series but its not true duals.......and i got mine installed for $270 with 3" tips and my friends got it for his s-10 for cheaper same place and got 4" tips? wtf is up with that?

I have 3" tips and I think it does make a difference. They're great for looks but I also believe they they produce reverberation (sp?) that makes a more "hollow" or slightly bigger sound. Plus you just can't beat the chrome.

well acording to rice-ology a 2 in pipe for the whole exhuast with a 4 in exit at the end will give you added hp

Hey 92dakotahd, mine has that "hollow" sound too with a 4" tip, you could be right though. Mine has an almost "smacking" sound when I hit about 4000rpms at 3/4 throttle. I think it could be because I'm not running a cat.

just make sure to spend the extra cash and get the stainless ones and not the chrome.
chrome will rust so quick, atleast mine did. I had a set of stainless ones on there but got rear ended and turns out the body shop just put on chrome ones. damn them to hell.
