2003 Dakota 3.9 5Spd. my question. Is neutral gear rattle normal this is the only vehicle i have expereinced this with and i have owned my share of 4 speeds and 5 speeds, is there an oil to help calm this down, it can be annoying at times and i have had the trans replaced twice in two years because of this all warranty work only cost me 100$ each time but now warranty has expired, just looking for a knowledgable responce.

I haven't had this problem with my '00 5spd but did have the same situation with a BG T5 trans years ago. From the factory the T5 was filled with DEXRON auto trans fluid. The dealer replaced that with 75w-80 gear lube and that shut it up.

Check the fluid in your trans and make sure it is the proper type and weight.

as for the fluid level all is well and the fluid that is being used is what ever the dealership installed which i would hope this is the right fluid im hoping there is an additive i can ad to it or just replace the fluid with a full synthetic or something of that nature.

You could try refilling with the full synthetic. I think it's GL-5 but don't hold me to it. Check your owners manual.
