Subject: Codes after new plugs and wires IP: Logged
Message: Have a 2003 Dakota 3.9 Quad. I just put in new plugs and wires.. Started truck and noticed rough idle. Checked codes and it is throwing P0300, p0301, and p0303. Does this mean I crossed the wires for cylinders 1 and 3?
Thanks!!

Message: Probably, double check your plug wires. That's one reason why when I change plug wires i do them one at a time. Nothing gets crossed that way.

Message: Thanks!. Just swapped the 2 wires and made a huge difference. I just need to clear the codes and hopefully will be all set.
Since I changed the plugs and wires, should I do the cap and rotor too? I don't usually do my own tune-ups, but times are tough.

Message: I personally change cap and rotor everytime i do plugs and wires its just seems smart. how many miles are on the current setup. i usually change every two years and that equates for me about 60,000 miles

Cap and rotor every 60,000 with plugs
If you run an MSD system the cap and rotor will
be shot at 8,000 miles the high volts and multi
strike take there toll so I just run the cheap
auto zone caps with these systems you may lose
a little but with the MSD being so powerful it
does not make much diff
If you run the stock ignition the NAPA MO26 and
MO28 cap and rotor with the solid brass incerts
for around $16 is the best route to take
