Subject: Transmission, trucks starts wont move IP: Logged
Message: My 94' V6 Dakota starts but usually wont move, somtimes it starts and might drive a few hundred feet but then it just stops moving again. I'm sure it's the tranny (automatic) just not sure what's wrong. Any ideas?

Message: Check the transmission fluid level .
If it is up at full level , then you
will need another trans.. or rebuild..

Message: probably wrong
The 94 RH does not have the sensor and sol it is
hydrolicly pressure controled the 2 sols in the
RH are for O/D and lockup
sounds like stuck presure valve you will need to
take it to a good trans shop have the valve body
disasembled and cleand either that or its
completly shot

Message: Well I picked up a rebuild kit for it. I'll pull it apart and try to fix it. I don't trust taking my stuff to mechanics, never a good experience and getting bent over in labour charges is rediculous. Thanks for the help though, thought I'd see if there was any know common problems with the tranny's of that year. The truck has almost 300'000kms on it so I'm sure the tranny is due for a rebuild. And if that doesn't work off to the junkers to see if I can find another trans I guess

Message: Haha I've been mechanically inclined since I was a kid. Love working on my vehicles. Working on a tranny will be new for me but there's only one way to learn. :)
And no, guys are generally intimidated by a girl who can tell them more about their truck then they can haha

Message: Haha sorry not into beer. I'm a highball girl.
Anyways yea I'll keep ya'll posted. I just got the truck home last night and the tranny's been torn out already. It drove onto the car trailer at least then into the shop where it promptly stopped moving. I bought the truck a couple weeks ago with the intent of making it run. For 400$ I couldn't go wrong and the rest of the truck is in awesome shape. I think the transmission pump is going too though, the guy who had it was overfilling the tranny. He said it had a leak so he'd put more in at a time so he wouldn't have to worry. Could that do some damage?

Dgirl, Yes overfilling can cause damage as with overfilling, the oil could foam up then all you're lubricating with is basically air. Not good!!!
