Message: Guy's: My MIL light went off yesterday and I pulled the code and it came up "Evap Leak Monitor, Large Leak Detected". I tried changing the gas cap to no avail. Not sure if I need to reset the MIL light to see if that fixed it but I would have thought it would have shut off if that was the problem. So I would like to ask those of you who have had this problem where most of the split vacuum hoses were found. I'd like to narrow my search this weekend. Thx for your replies.>>>>AJ 2002 CC 3.9V6 4X4 65K miles

Message: check the hoses coming off the charcoal canister located in front of the fuel tank. if you don't find anything there look under the hood at the purge solenoid.

Message: Daddio: Thank you. Is the purge solenoid right behind the battery on the drivers side?

we have had several guys on here
that went through hell with that code
only to find a new gas cap solved the problem

Message: Thx Guy's. I did try a 2nd new gas cap. Replaced my original with one from Autozone a month ago and thought maybe that was a weak or bad cap. So I purchased a new one from NAPA and still have the MIL light on. I'm going to try to find any split hoses tomorrow and if I cant I'll reset the MIL just in case the cap solved the problem but the MIL doesnt automatically reset.

Message: the mil for a bad gas cap usually resets pretty fast. i left mine off one time, started my truck, and it popped it on. put the cap back on and after a couple of start/ stop cycles it was off. usually the cap will be a small leak.

Message: We'll visually inspected all the hose connections around the charcoal canister and purge valve this weekend and could not find any splits or cracks that would cause the large leak. I reset the computer and now hope is was the gas cap. I've driven the truck about 60 miles since checking and so far so good, no MIL light. I would think the computer would have polled the emissions by now. With a little luck hopefully that solved it.
