Subject: stalls after start IP: Logged
Message: ok so....my truck lost all of its low end...now when i start it, it dies. if i hit the gas once it starts it will then catch itself and idle but if i dont...it just dies. iac, map, and tps are all BRAND NEW so i am officially lost. i dont have much knowledge on cam and or crank sensors but ive been researching and i think that may be it. any info or knowledge on how to diag this problem is greatly appreciated.
i think whatever it is is going bad and finally went cause first i lost my torque and now it wont idle.........oh yeah and the TB is so clean it shines...
thanks in advance,
mario

Message: 1997 3.9 4x4, i will be checking the fuel pressure soon... i just need to go too autozone and rent the tester. but...tomorrow is easter sunday. i was runnin 93 then VERY RECENTLY switched to 91 and full synthetic oil. i also replaced the pcv valve and although it didnt fix my problem i got more oil pressure somehow. one of my buddies has a ram 2500 with a v-10. his truck lost its torque, hard to start then sometimes died, his symptoms were the same as mine and one day it finally quit for good and turned out to be the fuel pump. replaced it and his truck ran like new again.
also what amount of fuel pressure would be considerd good or acceptable?

Message: Mario if you don't have a fuel pressure gauge
or have a buddy to borrow one from
check your local auto parts chain/store
they have tool loaner programs
you leave a deposit and get it back when you return the tool

Message: checked the fuel pressure today...got tool from auto zone...160.00 deposit. all checks out ok on the guage, the pressure was right where it should be. i talked to my old boss today who is a mechanic and owns his own shop and he said some sort of timing issue. what do you guys think? i was wondering if maybe my chain has stretched to this point and the motor is now out of time. the chain has been clanking for a good 20,000 miles now but why would this problem INSTANTLY appear??
PS: checked for codes and their are none so it makes me belive that its a mechanical issue and not a sensor cause if it was it SHOULD (not saying it will) throw a code.
what do yall think??

Mario Get your battery load tested
make note not just tested but "Load" tested
a battery can test ok with a normal test
only the load test will show if it has a dead cell

Message: all righty then guys,
i was so far into it i didnt even think to check something as dumb as that. it will do it when the truck has not ran for a while. if i shut it off after running for a while it will restart without an issue, if i just try to start it after a few hours...nothing just fires up and dies....i will have it load tested tomorrow and will get back you.
i checked the coolant temp sensor and that was all ok.
thanks again for all the help i really appreciate it.

Message: battery was load tested today and that wasnt it either....im soooooooo out of ideas. runs fine after i put my foot on the gas for like 10 seconds during start up. and if i drive it for like 5 min after i get it running, i shut it off and it fires right back up no problems.....

Sounds like the fuel rail is losing pressure after sitting for a while.
