Message: You will love the drive if you settle in on a Dakota. Comfort of a luxo sedan, GR8 style and good looks, and of the mid sized trucks (Ranger, S-10, GMC Sonoma, etc.) they have the the largest cab and payload capacity in their class. Even though these kool trucks are like dog poop (they're EVERYWHERE !), people always give them a second glance because they're a great looking truck (the second gen are the best IMHO). The Dodge V8 nor V6 are NOT what anyone can call economical. I have a '00 Dakota with the 3.9 ltr V6 and travel 55 miles round trip (mostly on Washington state I-5) every day. If I drive with as feather light foot as possible, use the cruise every chance I get, absolutely DO NOT do the jack rabit start from the lights - I average 18 in decent weather, 19 at best on a really good week. Heavy rain, snow and bright sunny days all have a negative impact on mileage,, dunno why sunny weather bothers it - but it does. From posts I've seen, the guys with the HOT 5.7 liter's - if they're lucky - get 12 to 16. So,, if you're looking for good mileage I'm thinking you're left with looking for an import. Ranger, S-10 and the little Jimmy's -- none of them - will see 20/21mpg.
