Subject: Compaptible motors?

Message:
Would greatly appreciate knowing what my options are when replacing the 3.9L v6 motor in my 99 dakota 2wd automatic p/u. What motor sizes and range of years are compatible with my truck & transmission?

any help is sincerely appreciated!

Doug, there are a few that come to mind, the 5.2 (318) and the 5.9 (360) but you would have to change the computers as well. but they should come close to being bolt ins, I think the 360 and the 318 have slightly different motor mounts but can be made to fit fairly easily. The next problem may be the transmission may not be strong enough to stand up behind the V8's. As for years, I think the years could go back to the ones that used carb's but they may not be compatable with your dash gauges. So just to clarify, I think from 98-2000 would be pretty much bolt-ins. With a correct computer as well. I think the wiring would plug into the correct computers without any problems, the main difference being the extra wires for the fuel injectors/spark plugs.
Hope this helps.

any 3.9 from 1992 and up will be a direct bolt in
(use your intake an exhaust manifolds, the older motors are EGR)

92 and up 318
you will need the pcm from the v8 donor
and the additional 2 wires/plugs for the 2 extra injectors
other then that the 318 will bolt in

However without knowing what Trans you have
there will be a question as to "IF" it will hold up to the added trq. of the V8
