Subject: Plenum Repaired!! IP: Logged
Message: Took of my intake manifold Friday and found two leaks past the plenum gasket (180 degrees from each other) and two leaks past the two cork end gaskets (cracked near the middle).
I cleaned the TB, IM, Flanges, and corresponding sensors/vacuum lines. Used fel-pro intake gaskets from NAPA and an Aluminum plenum plate from Hughes Engines (came with plenum bolts, but bought the intake bolts from them as well)(too bad my mill is offline, because there is NOTHIN' to that plenum plate!!) I am going to be the guinea pig because I used "The Right Stuff" on pretty much all the the gaskets.
I also ended up replacing a couple senors (oil pressure sending unit and the coolant temp senor)due to my clumsiness, and my Thermostat because the gasket was shot.
Plenum - used Hughes torque pattern as supplied and torqued 48in/lb - 84in/lbs twice
Intake - used Haynes manual for torque pattern and torqued 4ft/lbs - 6 - 8 - 12? (pretty sure)
Here is what changed in my trucks performance:
-idles at 500rpm instead of 1200rpm
-shifts quicker
-better acceleration
-doesn't lag going up hill
-and just runs like a truck is supposed to!!!
I highly recommend doing this project if you think your truck has those symptoms and/or see oil/gasket/carbon when you look down your throttle body (for those who don't know, when you look down your TB you are looking at the plenum plate which makes up the base).
Thanks for the help!

Message: I believe they started the plenums in 92?
so pretty much most of the 3.9's are suspect to this problem.
sorry I forgot to mention what truck I had earlier;
1994
3.9L
SLT 4X4
Rebuilt Auto-Tranny
FMS #19 injectors
NGK V-Power plugs
Magnaflow Cat
Dynomax 17748 muff (2.5")
all with 105,000 miles

Message: Just wanted to say a couple things;
It also repaired my rpm flutter which was a mystery for a long time
So far I have gained 3mpg (about 17mpg in town) and it is getting better every fill-up (I think it's the PCM re-learning)
Thanks
