Message: I'm having trouble locating a park brake tensioner (p/n: 52008437ab) on my '99 dakota club cab. My dealer says the part is no longer available and no one has it in the country, even his vintage suppliers. The tensioner is located between the intermidiate & rear cables. Adjustment to the threaded rod allows proper adjustment to the park brake system. Any ideas where I'm able to obtain this part or possible falls under some type of service/parts bulletin since the part has been discontinued?

Message: gbcbuckeye, I think something is wrong, mine is an 88 and I was able to get all of my cables for the entire parking brake system from Oreilly's all the way from the cable from the inside to the two at the rear all of them needed to be replaced. I think they had to order one or two, but was able to get them. Check to see if you can get the one for an 88 it may fit.
Good Luck

Message: gcbbuckeye is right, i can't find one either, the mechanic is looking to fit one that is similar. I will know in a couple of days if it works or not, if you have found something please let me know where you got it. I checked at rockauto they have every other part but that one.

Message: I had new brakes put on my 1999 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6. I now have no parking brakes. What did they not connect or do I need to adjust the cables? I will not go back to those guys at Casey's. I had to bring the truck back three times to get a noise out of the brakes. How do I adjust the parking brake? Or did they leave something un connected?
Thanks
Paul

Message: Hey Paulo, there is a piece of rubber behind the whole brake
drum, lower bottom location.
Take off the piece of rubber and there is a
piece that you can turn to adjust your brakes, turn that piece
until your brake drum comes off a little but is a little
tight on the brake shoes when you try to take it off.
Adjust that piece with a screw driver or a tool that
can go in the hole from where you took off
the piece of rubber, You are moving the tool up and down kid
of like a lever to adjust it, you should hear clicking noises.
Since they are new breaks, you should expect to smell burnt
smell or see smoke from your rear tires, lol mine was lots of
fun.
You should have parking breaks after that. Make sure u put
the piece of rubber back on because you don't want dirt
gettin in there.
And as for that brake cable part, sorry to hear dude.
Junk yard? Good luck. :/
