Subject: V6 trans torque converter IP: Logged
Message: hello everyone
I have a 98 Dakota V6 3.9L 5 spd automatic with 198k miles and the transmission suddenly started slipping. I have already changed the fluid and filter and added a bottle of the lucas additive but it hasn't helped much. I figured it might be the torque converter so i figured I'd get a new performance one and a shift kit while I'm at it.
But I don't understand what RPM stall means or whats best for my truck can anybody help me.

Message: The main problem will not be the Torque converter.
The Bands need adjustment or replace .
As for 'Stall speed' this refers to the rpm at which a torque converter applies full power thru itself .
At a speed less than this it 'slips'
for instance to allow the motor to idle with a minimum of loading on it .
Typically this "specification" is used for
racing engines - allows the motor to get up into it's Torque/power curve - so that on [ take-off ]
= Maximum possible is available and passed thru
the drivetrain..

Message: There are 2 converters from the factory
900 rpm
1200 rpm or high stall used in the 4x4's
For normal aplication these will work fine
