Subject: brake job IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 dodge dakota 2 wheel drive 3.9 engine auto transmission.I took it to the shop for a brake job.after installing the new pads when the brakes were applied they would not release.the mechanic suggested it needed new calipers.after obtaining and installing two used calipers the brakes worked fine .anyone ever heard of this before the calipers seemed to be working before the brake job but both quit working after installing new pads.could the mechanic have done something wrong to cause this?

Message: andys1960, if the pads were worn very much what could have happened is when they pushed the piston back into the calipers the pistons got stuck, causing the problem you were having. If you are easy on the brakes and they last a long time, its possible that moisture caused the caliper to rust, so when they were pushed back into the caliper so they would fit over the new pads, it pushed the pistons into some rust causing them not to move, or work correctly.
Hope that helps some.

Message: These trucks are known for caliper problems particularly the right one and same goes for caliper pins that freeze up
