Message: im having my 3.9 heads ported and i got 2.02 intake valves for them... i was told i will have to modify the seats and that they are prone to cracking when doing this. can anyone confirm this or has anyone put 2.02 intake valves on their 3.9 heads with no problems?

Message: For some reason the V8 heads are prone to cracks
the V6 heads its very rare
The only thing you need to do to install the
bigger valves is to remove the old seats
machine the head and press in the larger seat
Thats it basicly just like replacing a bad seat
That's it
any good machine shop can do that than you can
do your porting
On the V6 unless you plan on nitrious or forced
induction just a good clean up and polish is
all that is nessasary
The low end will drop off real fast when porting
the V6 but if you have the gears and a higher
stall converter than you can do it. your power
band will be higher
If you need a converter smrtrans.com call and
talk to Pat they make there own converters in
house and you can get any stall speed you want
from stock to 3600rpm
I am running a 1200 stall in my 4x4 and my 94
stroker truck I have a 1800 they work great also
the lock up section is a lot stronger
My 4" stroker motor is usless under 2000rpm 309
hp at the wheels 322 torque
My 4x4 is pulling 230 RWHP
A higher stall converter makes a big diff accross
the entire rpm range the sooner you hit your
power band the better
What I would do is test the truck after the motor
is done and figure out what speed you want stock
is around 900

Message: Larry, i dont know if i told you yet, but im turbocharging my 3.9!
:)
and i have an AX-15 trans.
im just sending back the 2.02" intake valves and replacing with
stainless steel 1.92" intake valves. Then i will have the beast
heads ported and polished. There is ALOT of carbon build up in
those heads and casting and crappy flow, i bet i will gain a good
amount of power after installing the ported heads.
ALSO, i have yet to install my modified intake manifold, so i will
do both at the same time and hopefully its a different machine :)
In my opinion, there are huge restrictions with the stock heads
and intake manifold, especially with my hughes engines
cam/rockers/ and higher compression pistons/ and the rest of
the mods.
thanks for your advice larry!

flow the better
with a turbo yes port it your power band will go
up in the rpm range higher but there will be more
power in that band
Motors are all diff depends on what your doing
with the vehicle
