Subject: horse power equation?

Message:
i read in a hot rodding magazine last week that there is a simple equation to figure out how much horse power your vehicle has... it said this method has been proven threw out the years after thousands of runs-
the equation was quater mile (mph) divided by 234 then that number cubed(multiply its quantity three time) example 3x3x3=27
then last...
multiply this number by the vehicles weight
so my quater mile mph was 82.10-milan drag way
my weight is 3440-local weight station
the number it came up with was rounded up to
150 hp.
my question is this must be rear wheel horse power?
i have a v6 with a nice amount of mods... so is there a rule of thumb for engine horse power to rear wheel- like a percentage loss or some sort...thanks for the interest...

so then what would the horsepower at the crank if the rear wheel horse power is 150?

you have aproximately a 20% drivetrain loss with an auto trans and about 15% with a manual trans. just add that percentage back to the rear wheel hp and you should get an estimated flywheel hp.
