Not to go against Larry but if lock is working but unlock is not, chances are pretty good the fuses are OK and the Central Timer Module is bad. The relays for the electric locks and the guts of the keyless entry system are contained in the CTM.

The relays are not serviceable. The CTM has to be replaced and the new one needs to be programmed to the truck with the dealer DRB-3 tool. I have heard it's about a $300 job including the new CTM. A junkyard CTM will work but it has to come from a truck with exactly the same options as your truck. And it still needs to be programmed at the dealer.

thanks for all the info, that is what i was thinking it is. i had the CTM replaced earlier this year an it was $500. I'm not looking forward to paying that again. unlock work, locking does not. again thanks for the insight on this matter. this web page is great for use dakota guy's,and gal's.

You're sure that it's not just a key fob problem? It does the same thing on both key fobs? I ask because the wife's van did something similar and I was ready to tell her to take it to the dealer, but tried my keys and ... hmm, it worked. Turned out it was just her key fob where she'd been pressing the buttons with the end of her fingernail instead of her fingertip - and split the button, messing up the internals.

what year truck is this? have you considered rewiring this system? because the motors are just a basic 5 wire system and you could use the origional switches to power up new relays? or you could run new wires from the motors to a 451m model from directed electonics and have it work with the alarm only? i am an electronic expert and shop foreman at a custom shop in detroit. on one of my dakotas- i installed actuators and there is other options for you- then what has been recommended. they are just involved for labor and time...
