pete, sorry its taken me so long to get back to you, but it sure sounds like a bearing from what you have described. I would change just the side with the play and wait to see if the other makes any noise.
Good Luck

Just wanted let everyone know I finally replaced my wheel bearing turn out to be the left side easier than I thought, took about 20 minutes for me to replace it got part at NAPAS for about $130 and some change.I replaced it because the noise was getting louder by the day and couldn't even enjoy listening to my tunes. Also beared elements 10' and wind chill but had a salmander heater to warm the garage, thanks everyone for your input and advice....

I am having the same problem. Using SKF brg/hub assemblies, I have replaced both sides twice in the last year. Had a 4 wheel alignment done...tech said nothing unordinary. No brake drag. I would think that SKF would be OE supplier or at least a top line replacement...am I missing something?
