Message:
I have a 2000 Dakota with the 3.9 and really like the truck.I had to replace a bad water pump at about 80,000 miles a few months ago.I seem to remember seeing something on here about the gasket getting sucked in.Since I have started losing water and noticed a small drip puddle under the front of the engine.I am asuming (we know what that leads to) that I may have sucked the gasket in.Is there a fix for this or do you just keep repairing it until it stays?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Did you use a little gasket shellac or
sealer to make it stick ?

You should not need any sealer or gasket glue
on a new gasket

try retorqueing the bolts to 15 foot pounds

I'm having a similar problem, I just replace the upper bypass hose that blew out. I'm still having a small leak only when the vehicle runs, but the drip is coming from the middle of the under carriage, dripping from above the starter and oil pan. I can't see above the starter to really tell where it's coming from. Anybody with any answers.

they are metal plugs inserted to the engine block and heads in certain areas so that if the coolant would ever freeze these plugs would pop out instead of the expanding coolant cracking the block. if memory serves me there are 3 of these on each side of the block. you'll see them. they should be silver in color and about an 1.5" - 2" in diameter. they can rust out over time usually due to improper cooling system maintenance.

Do you happen to know if one of those plugs are right above the starter on the driver's side? That's where I'm getting the leak, dripping off the starter.
