Subject: OEM exhaust size?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 QC 3.9L with a stock exhaust. Thinking about a cheap upgrade by removing old muffler and replacing with a cheap Dynomax Thrush or FlowTech Raptor and leaving everything else for now. Does my truck have 2.25" or 2.5" pipes and anyone know the length of the stock muffler off hand? I guess I'm not even sure if the stock is center or side outputs.

Basically I just want to replace the stock muffler with a freer flowing one - looking for a little better MPGs and nicer sound would be good too. Anyone have any experience with what might be the best fit for a direct replacement?

Take to a shop and have them measure it or measure it yourself that way you will know what you have.

I think the stock exhaust is 2.5 in.

If you do nothing to the intake first you will see no improvement.

i believe the Walker/Dynomax #17748 is a direct replacement. freer flowing and a little deeper tone.

I got down and measured the stock muffler and it's 24" long on the body. It also has both sides offset. I can't find anything that's quite long enough, so I'm probably going to have to find a short piece of 2 1/2" tube to get it to work.

We have Cole Muffler out here, they sell parts over the counter for do it youselfers. They sold me a free flowing mufler and the correct extension for about $75.
