Subject: Engine dies on warm starts
IP: Logged

Message:
My truck will start fine with a cold engine whether it 30 degrees outside or 70 degrees. But here for the past couple weeks, if I drive somewhere park, come back and start the truck while the engine is still warm, it will start up and then cut off. I have to give it some extra revs and get into drive and actually start moving before it will be okay.

Any ideas what to check for?

Thanks

TPS throttle position sensor or the IAC idle
air control

A good way to test this is to step on the gas
when you start it if it starts ok its one or the
other

If not I would suspect a lazy o2 sensor what
this will act like is when you start out its like
it does not want to go when you hit the gas than
all of a sudden it will take off and run fine

Thanks Larry, I'll check those out this evening.

What's the voltage reading supposed to be on the TPS at idle? Or you think it's just bad all together?

I agree with Larry it could the TPS or the IAC. If it will continue to run when you step on the gas pedal it's most like the IAC needs cleaned or replaced. If it dies and you cannot get it started it could be that the TPS is bad.

TPS or its electrical connection. And it usually does not trip a code.
