Subject: motor running lean?

Message:
this week while exiting the freeway my 1994 dakota
started shaking(motor) it seems to do this the worst at 2000-4000 rpm. its kinda weird? there is no check engine light and no codes. i changed the cap, rotor, wires and plugs. the problem has gotten better, but is still there. the plugs were really white? i talked to my step father and he said the motor is running to lean. i was told to check for a vacuum leak. it does seem like there is a weird vibration to my motor now and almost like a sputter? the motor seems to be ok during idle, not really noticable. i drove a van today into the shop i work at and it had kinda the same problem? i know there is someone outthere that knows exactly what this is or knows what is the best way to attack this problem. i just need to keep this dakota running over the winter and then i can drive other dakota low rider when it starts to warm up.thanks-yeah i got two 1992,1994 i like these trucks!

The o2 sensor is the main sensor for fuel

This is the first place to look if the
air/fuel ratio is off

plugs are your eyes to how its running
white lean
tan right on
black rich

fuel pressure would be next but on the obd1
92 to 95 there is a shrader valve to check this
after that they removed this and you need a
special fitting to check

these are the 2 main facters that have to be right
40 to 50 psi most pumps put out 45 47 psi
once you drop below 40 your atimization is afected
and gas mileage will drop

my 2002 dakota stalls , lack of power and sometimes it feels like it has NO power at all. I replaced the computer ,plugs wires, plugs, cap and rotor. and still the same. Does this sound like a bad sensor? when I lose power I can restart the motor and it regains it but it doesn't last long. after i changed the computer the abs chimes continuously .I put the old computer back in and still did the same.did the new computer do that or was that just a new problem? I brought it to advavced auto and their computer checker only gave me code 500 (bank 1 to lean). Is there anyone that can help me? I don't know what esle to do. Thanks ,Tony

Tony, bank 1 lean would most likely be the front O2 on that bank. have you tired changing that O2 yet?

some trucks have 1 o2 sensor obd1 now with the
obd2 you could have 2 or 4 o2 sensors 1 or 2
converters

there i also a diff in the way they fire
batch fire or sequential

batch all will have the same fire in mili secs
sequential with 2 o2 sensors yes 1 bank can be
lean

Hi, I have a 98 dakota 3.9 and it likes to cut out when I stop at red lights. I think it may be the fuel pump because the fuel guage will die at random and just sits there for random amounts of time. Also could it be a short in the system, I bought it from a title pawn 7 months ago and the radio was cut out and the carpet on the passenger side floorboard gets wet every time it rains. If anyone knows what the problem could be, please let me know.
