Message: I would agree with daddio, he knows more about the transmission applacation than I do. As for your other questions, yes it should be fine with the 9.25 and 3:92 gears. Plus I think you would get slightly bigger brakes as well.
Good Luck

Message: with a 3.9 there is no need for a 9.25" rear. the 8.25 will handle that fine. with a RC 5spd, the 3.92 will give decent acceleration. i have an '00 QC with a 3.9 5spd and 3.55's. wish i had 3.92:1 gears.

Message: well the reason i was asking is because i just went thru my 2nd 8 1/4 rear in 15000 miles. i dont beat on it, and the replacement to the original was a boneyard part from upstate PA where i used to live. it could have just been bad luck, but now the rear pinion seal went and it dont hold fluid and it screams so its dead. anyway from what i see/hear at the shop, the 8 1/4 rears are weak. plus, the 3.92 is the only one i can find anyway so what the hell right? one last thing, theyre not 5 lug are they?

Message: Daddio, I thought from his post he was going to get a 9.25 (complete) from a salvsge yard and use that to replace the complete 8.25, that's why I think it would work ok for him.
I do think the 9.25 is a 6 lug as well, but I could be wrong about that as well. Again daddio will probably know that too.
Good Luck

Message: the reason i said the 9.25" is not necessary is because the only way a 3.9 could make enough power to destroy one would be if it had about 15lbs of boost. i don't remember what year they went to 6 lug but i think '96-'04 should all be 6 lug on either 8.25 or 9.25. if it all you can find, by all means get it. if you upgrade engines later you'll be set.

Message: if the rearend you're getting has a sway bar i'd install it when you swap the rear. it will only help your truck handle better. from what i understand, if they're close in years it should bolt right in. i've read a couple of post on here of people adding the factory rear swaybar on to trucks without and it was just a bolt in mod.
