Message: Mabey its the dog 3.55 gears that alot of the dakotas have that bogs them down...they're too tall for such a small engine on a heavy truck. I wish i had the 3.92's. I know alot of the 4.3's come with mainly 3.73's so that helps alot.

Message: I think everyone needs to quit complainging, I have a 2001 sonoma with endless prblems, its a 4.3 V6 extended, whoops on V6 dakotas, civics, Z71s, F150s, and beat a 5.9 Fullsize!, I know people who have dodges with endless problems,Automatic transmission kept going out, my friend had to replace his motor with 5,000 miles on it, (ford 150), and as far as performance goes, chevy is not the the weak one here...... 6.0 liter chevy = 300 horsepower and gobs of torque, 17 miles per gallon, 5.9 liter dodge, is what a weak 245 horsepower, and like 15 miles to gallon if lucky, haha! Ford, well you might as well get a powerstroke! And I believe that Chevys seem to have the best value also! And some say that chevy is always behind in performance,in 1988 chevy came out with the fuel injected V8, and dodge had that ugly body style with a weak motor, and fords fuel injection was known to have problems, dad had a 1991 350, his friend had a 1990 fors with the 351, the ford got like 2 miles per gallon less, towed loads much slower, and....... oh yeah it was UGLY!

My V6 sonoma, with an auto tanny and 3.73 gers and extended cab, beats V6 dakota single cabs and extended cabs all the time, so there you have it, alot of it is in the driver also..... It also can keep up with alot of V8s.

Message: I have just recently purchased a 98 Dodge Dakota Sport reg cab with five speed and am currently getting it licensed and insured (haven't had it but a few days). Personally I am a Ford man, always have been, always will be but have always eyed the late 90's dakotas. I have recently had a challenge layed out to me from a fellow co worker who owns a newer GMC Jimmy with a 4.3 auto (not sure the exact year late 90's i think) I figured with my truck being a lot lighter I could take him but I will have to find out when i get her on the road. By the way, if there is one thing i hate, its a damn CHEVY!!!

Message: never owned a dodge 3.9, never been beat by one either though. I have an 88 4x4 s-10 with a TBI 4.3, its extended cab too. And with all that extra weight of the four wheel drive, ext cab, and oversized tires, I've still been smoking everything i've raced that didn't have a v8 in it. It's going on 200,000 miles, and i've never had a single problem with it. Atleast maybe we can agree on one thing... Ford V6's suck. Since the new ranger edges have come out, i've raced 3 of them, and blew them all away. I just love doing that to someone that's spent 20 to 30,000 on a new truck.

Message: Alot of people forget that the computers in must cars and trucks train them selves to how you drive if you don't hotrod the vehicle all the time it trains its self to save gas
If you do hotrod around all the time it save timing information and the like to keep at top gas gussling performance
so that is why you will beat your friends truck ar they beat you all the time
HInt if you plan to go out racing beat on it for a little while and look for people just Crusin

The '93 with the MPFI is much more powerful, runs like a top, and now has 120K miles and runs like new. No trans. problems on this one, either.
I like the Dakota, and the 3.9L has been great for me. Also, the Dakota is a very nice sized truck compared to the toy-sized S-10's and Rangers.

I have both a 92 S-10 Blazer and a 92 Dakota CC, 4.3/auto and 3.9/5 speed, both 4X4. Hands down the Dakota is the better truck in every respect except the S-10 handles better in snow and ice.
None of this "you can't compare auto to stick" BS. The S-10 has lower gears, 120k fewer miles on the engine and isn't really any heavier. They should be dead even.
When I have the choice I'll drive the Dakota every time. I just wish I had the choice, the Dakota had a incident with a front end loader so I'm stuck driving the blazer when I really want my truck back in the stable.
