Message: Regardless of which V-6 is faster, i think the 4.3 certainly runs better and smoother. The 3.9 is harsh and unrefined. It idles bad and has a tendency to race (letting off the gas does not make the engine slow down for a few seconds, then it begins to slow down). If its supposed to run like that, i can't imagine why.

Message: I have a 92 Dak RC 3.9L 4 speed auto with a HD package. I have faith that I could beat a S10 4.3L if I had a 5 speed manual. I would probably gain about 2 sec. on the 1/4 mile if my trany would just stift right. It hesitates so bad I have been beaten by my buddy's 87 4 door honda accord with a 5 speed manual. I have a question, why does my Dak make 180hp and the new ones only make 175hp?

Message: The 3.9 is many things but it definitly is not "Raw Power"......i think my single cylinder 4-stroke dirt bike idles better......you can feel that "lumpy" idle almost all the time......look at the engine while its running....it shakes and bounces around way more than other engines i've seen....and stick your ear by the tail pipe, you can hear an almost constant miss...its that stupid, obsolete odd-fire distributor.......i can appreciate a rough sounding V-8 but rough and loud V-6's sound awful....as for power, well, mine's a pig. If yours is fast or you think its fast, more power to you....i'm going to put 3.90's gears in this thing to wake it up a bit...3.55's in an ext. cab V-6 auto is NOT a good combo.....

Message: The 3.9L RULES. It really shows why Mopar means muscle. I mean i stomp 4.3l's like a Viper kills a Vette. Its classic Dodge V.S. Chevrolet and Mopar always wins. My 3.9L is not the fastest ride but when it comes to beating 4.3's, i always win.

Message: Last time I checked the Vette was faster. At least back in the 60's and 70's the Chevys ran the whole way down the 1/4 mile. Nothing beat the Camaro in the LaMans races and nothing beat the Vette. I may be a Chevy guy but I will admit when a Chevy has been beat. I am also a Mopar guy and I will admit when a Mopar has been beat. As much as I hate to see the Viper get beat I will admit, that it did. At least it beat the Ford Cobra Rustang.

WAY TOO MUCH! I could have spent half as much on a 350 and went jsut as fast. But hey I am truing to be different that's why I did the turbo 4.3L engine. And I spent $10,000 on the truck new in 97 (GM discount)...and I have added around $15,000 in parts so far....cough cough!!
I just have to add....
It was really cool to see that the 2002 Z06 beat the Viper in every category. Faster 1/4 mile, more lateral G's, more creature comforts, and WAY cheaper!! Go GM. I am a major GM fan in case you can't tell. But I still LOVE Vipers. They are BAD! And so are 5.9 R/T Dakotas, and Prowlers look good but they need V8's. Just my 2 cents.

Message: slodak39 sounds like you got a lemon b/c my 97' dakota has 80,000 miles on it and it runs just like the day i bought it. Its still running smooth and take off could be better but the hydraulic tranny's are pieces of waste that is the only problem dodge has in the auto's. and my truck has never been in a shop.
and my dads last dodge a 93 dakota had 210K miles on it and had 1 sensor go bad the whole time he had that truck, so you could never convince me that dodge sucks. just next tim i ill knowto get a 5 speed!!
