Subject: Spark Plugs IP: Logged
Message: Anyone know what spark plug works the best in a 01 Dakota 3.9? I recently had Auto lite spark plugs put in and I believe they are the reason to my rough idle. I had Bosch Platinum in it before and it ran smooth then the garage that worked on my truck insisted that the auto lite brand was better for a Dodge Dakota. I pulled them myself to see if one of them was bad or if the gap was wrong but they appeared correct.
Thanks

Message: 3923's run great in the 3.9. I and many others here have had great results with them. If you have a rough idle I would check and replace the plug wires, distributor cap and rotor button too. The Napa cap and rotor with brass contacts part # MO 26 and MO 28 work well with the 3923's. The Belden premium wire set from Napa are really good in the 3.9 too. Great quality wires for a good price.
I'd also take a good look and make sure the garage that did the work didn't knock loose any wires, vaccum hoses, etc under the hood. Or I'd take the truck back to them to check their work if it ran well before they got hold of it.

Message: The best bang for the buck is the
NGK V power
FR4 stock heat
FR5 1 colder
obd1 .035
obd2 .040
with msd .055
$2.40ea
The e3 and halo's are very close
at $6 and $9 ea
If a better plug shows no improvement in performance or gas mileage something is not right

Message: Larry, the gap on a NGK is supposed to be .040? It is listed on a parts website as being .044.

Message: Update on rough idle. Turned out to be a bad set of plugs the shop put in and old wires that they did not replace. You think that they would check the wires considering they were over a year old. I put the NGK brand that was recommended along with a new set of premium wires and the problem is gone. That's the last time I take my truck there.
