Message: It has been sporadic in the past two weeks about starting. I would not do anything then all of a sudden, it would start. Now, it will not start. Has been down for a few days. I checked for voltage input to the coil, put a volt meter across the two leads while cranking, and there is no voltage. (constantly 0 volts) I replaced the coil just in case it might be bad but no help. I don't like the idea of spending $160 to see if it is the ecm. Is there anything else I can check?

Message: Change the pick-up sensor in your distributor; I
think it;s sometimes called a "halls effect sensor".

Message: 01 Dakota 4.7l. Was at idle for 10 mins to
defrost windows. Got in and drove it half
a mile. Started stuttering, tried to
accelerate had no power then died. Now it
cranks but will not start. I have
compression, spark, it is in time,
battery, it seems to be getting too much
fuel. Spark plugs are soaked in gas!
Please help

Message: I had same problem. 02 Dakota 3.9 ran fine, next day started, sputtered to a stop, and showed no sign of starting after that. Had fire, fuel and air. I wiggled, cleaned and reseated everything i could find. Would not even start with starting fluid. Was worried it was security system. After a few hours of scratching my head, I disconnected the battery and left it for bout 10-15 minutes. Hooked it back up and it started to fire. It took a little while to get it running but after I did, it starts and runs fine. It started as if it was an old flat head that had been flooded. Dont know if disconnecting the battery had anything to do with it starting or just a coincidence, but its free to do and may help. Good luck.
