Message: Pick-up sensor for Spark is installed in flywheel housing , just down from distributor .
Sensor in dist is used to time the Fuel injection.
Are you sure that it is getting gas ?

Message: If it is not on the lower side of block near the front , then yes , it is in the tank .
Follow the fuel line down from 'injector'
on carb ( at least I would call it a carb ) on these older trucks.

Message: by 1988 all the dak's came with throttle body injection with a fuel pump in the tank, it should have around 15 pounds of pressure at idle and 22 at full throttle.
88 up no carb.
Good Luck
