Message: in your 93 I recomend the TCI Trans scat kit
http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Shifters/auto_shifter.asp
instructions
http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Instructions/instructions/220500_inst.htm
TCI 220500
Also get a new 1-2 accumulator valve for the older
904 727 made from alm with steel seal rings
the org plastic and rubber rings are junk they
leak and will give you a soft 1-2 shift
Its the one that falls out when you lower the
valve body
http://www.redrider.us/727_parts.htm
#3A3 $15
This is the patco site they are also the builders
of the rapter transmissions
The kit has 2 setups
heavy duty trailer (firm but not harsh shifts)
street strip (very firm shifts)
depending on what you want
The TCI does a better job with the valve body than
the transgo kit TFOD 518

Message: They are not hard at all just follow the
instructions
! think very important
Clean, Clean Clean
A piece of hair or a grain of sand can make a
valve hang up
Basicly you drill a few holes and remove a few
check balls
The plastic 1-2 acumulator will drop out when the
valve body is removed the new alm valve just put
some fluid on the rings and wiggle it a little
until it pops into the hole and it will stay
in all by itself
You do not use any springs on the acumulator
with this kit
You will see the cheap plastic valve the rings get
hard and lose there seal and blow by
Also they tell you to set the pressure adjustment
to 1 5/16 take it to 1 1/4" this will raise the
presure aprox 20 psi the line pressure is usualy
right a the very low end 50psi 50 to 70 is recomended this will put you up around 70psi I
am actualy running mine at 75
center test port in drive brake on 50 to 70 the
only bad thing is you have to remove the pan to
adjust this 1 1/4 from spring seat to spring
seat
They have a real good set of instructions just
take your time and you will be fine
The problem with the transgo kits is I always
ended up taking them apart 2 or 3 times to get
them right they call for a .110 hole for the
1-2 shift give me a break the TCI opens this
upto .187
Be sure you mesure the drills unless they have
corected this the kits I got all had 1 drill
was wrong size
If you want you can also use the cusion blockers
in the servos this will firm up the shifts just
a little more you can get these from APS presision
trans site but for trailer towing the heavy duty
setup is probably just what you want
Oh 1 other thing to check is the TV sleave and
valve they ware and blowby
if its wore you can get a new valve spring and
seat from transmissionpartsusa.com and use 2 of
the shim washers that come with the valve
now when you adjust the TV cable so it just
bottoms at WOT wide open throttle this will put
your 1-2 shift point at around 15 to 20mph
This is important its the only link to the outside
world telling the trans to raise pressure as the
torque raises
Be sure you do not over fill the trans just bring
it up to the lower line of the safe mark than takr
it for a nice 5 mile ride and recheck the fluid
will expand when hot than just top off as
nessasary
Overfilling the fluid will hit the rotating assy
and cause foaming and make the trans run hot not
a good thing
If you want firmer shifts with this kit all
you have to do is install the blocker rod on the
1-2 acumulator and remove the 1-2 check ball very
easy to step it up another noth if you want to
this will give you real firm shifts
And be sure you use good fluid
Amsoil
Redline
ATF +4
Actualy royal purple is making a +4 fluid now
Another thing you can do to increase the life is
to use 2 tubes of the Mrmoly auto trans additive
it will make it smother and lower the operating
temp right around 10 degrees a very good idea if
you do a lot of trailer towing if you want
to make it even more bullet proof think about
also adding a trans cooler
Heat is what kills automatic transmissions
You can also raise the lockup pressure on the
outer part of the valve body you will see a
plate with a small hole bolted to the body
check the size and open the hole .010 but do not
take this hole any bigger than .070 this will
raise torque converter lockup presure
Now you will have a very strong trans that will
run eaisily 250,000 miles

Message: This question is for Larry? I researched the websites you listed, but couldn't find the Trans-Scat kit for a 1994 A500 with lockup. Does anyone make a similar product for that transmission? Mine has a very delayed and soft shift between 2-3. I'm trying to firm the shifts so that I can get the most from my engine mods.

Message: Look at the link I have for instructions and
you will see 89 to 98
www.transmissionpartsusa.com/
and the red rider site all these links work I
check always befor I paste them into the posts
red rider is a PATCO transmission parts outlet
I have ordered from all these places they are not
fly by night websites or companies
Actualy I will be ordering there Lockup switch
the adjustible one
What you can do with this vac switch is adjust in
3 to 6 psi vac so you can tume how much pedal you
need to pull it out of lockup with out having to
mash the pedal works well for passing cars
when you do not want to mash it and drop into 3rd
The GM lockup is controled this way and it also
works great on the dodges
Take a look at the A518 A500 conversion to use
the newer transmissions on the older trucks
A presure switch and vac switch setup
I have the Vac on lockup and a 30 to 40 psi
adjustible switch on my o/d running tru relays
But if you mess with the o/d and use a switch
you will need to use a 200 ohm resister from
power to comp side of o/d wire or the o/d switch
in the cab will not operate obd1
I just love my trans the way it shifts
1-2 18 to 20 mph
2-3 30 mph
3- o/d 40 mph
o/d - lockup 50 mph
This is just light throttle and it progresivly
goes up the more juice you give it
I just could not take being in o/d at 25 30 mph
and boging the motor
check out the red rider conversion it will explane
a lot how these transmissions work
Pin 54 lockup
Pin 55 o/d
TCI also makes a trans pan nickle chrome with a
drain plug for just under $30 as you know the
stock pan has no drain plug and is a messy
situation no matter how hard you try its a mess
Have lots of rags within reach LOL

Message: Larry, i have a question for you. i have ordered the shift kit and
accumulator in the instructions on line for figure 8a it says you
have to drill out several holes and eliminate 2 checkballs. this is
on the upper housing separator plate one i could find is the rear
clutch check ball but i do not know what the other check ball it
says to remove is, i was just wondering if i do remove them and
what are they used for? do i end up putting them in some where
else?and in the instructions on figure 8a i have to drill out 3
holes to 1/8'' but i can not tell if there is a hole on the left side
of the v or if i have to make a hole? i was just wondering what all
i have to drill in the upper housing by the 2-3, 1-2 gov plug,
and the throttle plug? I know you have installed this shift kit i
believe? I am just trying to invision what i have to do before start
tearing into stuff. Thanks for all the help Larry

Message: When you take it apart you will see exactly what
they are refering to
no you remove them and do not reuse them
The valve body comes out and than you seperate
the sections
http://members.aol.com/gnkim/transgo1.html
page 3 the 3/64 hole do this it sends more fluid
to the converter fig 3
page 5 lockup hop up this will show you were to
do that .70 .80 you can go bigger only if you
replace the converter seal rings but you can raise
it nicly by seeing what you have and going bigger
this is actualy all the transgo instructions here
just do the converter lube 3/64 hole and the hop
up for lockup

Message: Larry sorry to ask you so many questions, I got how to do the Lockup hop up, but I don't understand where to drill or really what to do to send more fluid to the converter. Im just not understanding the instructions on
"With center punch, make a dink in line with the arrow about 1/8" down into the passage. Drill through the partition right to left with 3/64" drill [.042-.047]."
Thanks again for all the help its greatly appreciated
Thanks Again

Message: Question for LARRY? I installed the TCI transcat shift kit today and have a problem. I set it up for the street plus and when I got to driving, my truck is running 4500 rpms and only doing 30 mph? Any suggestions. I set the throttle pressure and line pressure as the instructions mentioned. I did also install the 1-2 governor plug. Any help would be appreciated.

Message: sounds like you put the 1-2 shift valve and spring
in wrong than it will never come out of 1st
or you got some dirt
spring, valve, plug
I did that myself once LOL
On the torque converter valve its the one right
on the bracket for pressure adjust with a spring
the distance sorrie I forgot seat to valve .900
this valve is also the one where the hole is
drilled TCC Valve
Let me know if you figure it out the only way I
could fix it would be to ship it to me you pay
2 way ship and I will fix the body free I have
had so many apart Its like childs play
As the trans spools up you could say the pressure
increases the 1-2 pops runs second more pressure
the 2-3 pops the o.d and lockup is computer contl
