Message: I don't know anything about the JC Whitney part. But I did install a Rostra cruise on my 2001. It was not very hard and it works great. It has not had a single problem since I got it 3 years ago. The only trouble I had was finding the speed sensor wire. I had to get that info from a store where I used to work that sells aftermarket navigation systems.
I had a little trouble finding a dealer that still sells aftermarket cruises. You can look online for Rostra cruise (they used to be Dana cruise but Rostra bought Dana out some time ago). Or you can call around to truck accessory shops, stereo shops, etc. I got mine from P&S Auto and Truck Accessories in Florida.
My cruise works great, probably will work well for you too.

Message: The aftermarket cruse controles work very well
I have instaled them on almost every vehicle
you can think of carbs, throttlr body and multi-
port motors
Just be sure the modle you get covers your
aplication
The instal is typicly around 1 hour
I used to get them for $49 to $69 years ago
