Message: Yes I did was 215hp was falling short of the
20 25hp gain I had expected
After ampal time to learn it just seamed flat
over 2000rpm and onlt 22.5mpg
Than it finaly dawned on me when I instaled the
cam I set the sync at 0 planing on resetting
it after the chain was broke in all chains will
have an enitial streach
What a brick head hey, so I finally reset it to
+6 after about 500 miles I rechecked the mileage
and it was back up to 24.4 and ran very well
I have not run another dyno yet but I would say
an easy 20hp more now not 5 or 10 that I got
The cam opens like 4 to 6 degrees sooner than
stock so I went right to +6
I would say 225 230 RWHP
With the stock cam I was pulling 196 198 rear
wheel
The cam worked out very well changed the tone
of the exhaust quit a bit a lot deeper and
after reseting the sync there is a definate
loap at idle very noticeable
Even the police cheif I let use my truck to
go back to his office told me it was idling
rough but seams to run very strong LOL
First I told him its a bad plug or wire but he
did not beleave me LOL so I told him I changed
the cam, He said I thought it had more power
than the last time I used it
I told him now it will blow your crown vicky
away man he was just rolling on the floor laughing
those new vicky police cars are very quick and
he says they will run about 130 135mph

Message: How many miles are you driving to get 22.5 then 24.4 or is this instant on your gauges? are you running from to full tank of gas to empty or close to empty ? I get these figures after first 1/4 tank of gas. Then drive next 1/4 tank mileage drops a bit. and so forth by the time to to refill I average 17-19 in the city mostly driven. This is with Champion platinum plugs gap at factory spec .040, Standard wires, cap, rotor, and DENSO 02's that are switching still good after putting in around 60,000 now have 83,000, with synthetic oils and K&N air filter, and the fuel sync mod.Maybe I been out of the league with Halos, NGK's,BOSCH AUTOLITES. I can't justfy how they see the combustion chamber charactristics and put down everything else out there to hype there product to be better, guess better back to as some would say eat my lead paint chips or keep it basic.

Message: Pete,
Are you addressing me or Larry?
I usually go 300 miles on a tank around town. My figures are figured when I fill up, and I calculate the mileage. I DO have the overhead computer, too, and it's never been far off from what I calculate, usually only a tenth or two. And yeah, like you, I see 24+ on that overhead console when I first fill it up but then it drops like a rock to the high 17s or low 18s, and will stay somewhere in that range. Heck! Just cranking it on a cool morning will knock 3 tenths off that overhead computer. Sitting at some of these long-A$$ lights, you can watch it drop while it idles, too. Once I get moving, it goes back up some.
Next week, I go back to traveling, so I'll have some road miles and will get to see the 24 figure again (I hope).
Here's something else - we've been having something of a gas shortage here because the refineries shut down for Gustav and Ike, and I wound up filling it up last week with regular. I'm running a Superchips with the performance setting and normally burn mid-grade in it. I figured when I had to put regular in it, that it would ping - but no ping. I haven't heard a spark knock yet. Go figure!
Last week's around-town figure was 17.93, by the way, so I DID get a little bit better than I used to.

Message: tucker, maybe the "no pinging" is from the ethanol blend they're using in the gas because of refinery shortages. i know i can tell the difference between a reg blend of gas and the ethanol blend in my truck. the ethanol does help with pinging.

Message: Was not addressing anyone, just had seen the post with the lead paint chips thought it was funny, but for mileage filled up yesterday like every Wednesday drove 237.0 miles filled 12.2 gallons use to fill = 19.4mpg city driving so makes me think what above is a instant mileage taking. I had a brake caliper on the right side hanging up the case there mileage was between 14-16 mpg what a difference and was thinking I had something else wrong. I learned in school learning to be mechanic you should rule out all mechanical issues before turning to engine management (sensors) so forth unless you have MIL staring at you, but would eliminate overlooked common items we wouldn't normally would think to cause drops in gas mileage and other problems

Message: OK.. whats hype bout plugs these Halo,NGK etc. your standard plug wont give you this mileage if everything is working correctly.I have gotten this so 22-24 traveling through the smokies, maybe possible on long straight no incline or winding roads and steady cruise. In the day when changed your plugs differnt heat range was aide in mechanical problem or for racing I thought, cannot justfy one or two heat ranges cooler or brand name to do this. not saying myself to know it all still learning new things and want to tinker like you and everyone else here there, my motto still thinks "if isn't broke leave it alone"

Message: Its worth all the time and money you spend to test
plugs
Dodge magnums
champ truck plug
autolite little better
NGK V little better
After a long wait dealing with E3 they found a
flaw with there plugs when used with over 40,000
volts the resiter would burn out now corrected
I can find no diff in power performance or gas
mileage between the e3 and the halo virtualy the
same
The only diff is the design the halo has a round
ground ring the e3 has a dimond shape
They sent me 3 new sets to test and also sent me
a set for my 79 Lincoln which is getting 22mpg
but its not stock
The e3 guys really beleve and stand behind there
product took them a few months but did replace
all 18 plugs I bougt and sent me 8 more free
for helping them find a flaw
You see I never just test on one truck I ask a
few customers if they would like to help me test
a product before I ever recomend it to anyone at
no expense to them
so I tested the e3 in mine and 2 customers trucks
at no cost to them we had 2 plugs fail outright
and 1 in my truck was running so hot the ground
strap and tip were blue running so hot
Called them and they made good
Now I have customers coming in and asking if I
have anything new to test
One advantage I have with these companies is
owning a business and also being listed as a
mopar tech and trouble shooter
Twice a year I am invited to Detroit to the mopar
tech meatings which I make a point of attending
If anyone wants the mopar tech line number just
let me know just be specific when you call year
make modle than you will get the right guy to talk
with
I have to pay for my own loging but they do pay
$1 per mile for driving there from my house thats
only 300 miles and by the time you pay a hotel
bill it ends up costing me money but still worth
it
You have no idea what is coming soon in the
future, load activated multi cyl shut down
over 1000rpm which shuts down both fuel and
spark, unifuel gas, e85, pure alcohal with sensors
that atomaticly detect what fuel is being
delivered to the motor the future is here now but
will not hit the mrket for another 10 to 15 years
to me it is just so facinationg what you can do
with a computer controled vehicle also natural
gas adaptation with the tank installed you can
find any fuel and run it without changing
anything
The problem is the expense to deliver these systems to the public but they have them working
at the factory

Message: I see why now you go through alot plugs, remebering myself as a tech when just platinum was coming to view along with distruborless ignition and fuel injection, etc.. I thought this going make my head spin but was able to get a grip on it, and yes the word HYBRID wasn't even a thought now its on everyones conversation, the only thing you heard than was SOLAR POWER that even sounding distant future. What happen to the past I only get a glimps of it on TV and if you have a classic parts a few and costly, now everything for the modern tuner tech, time is slipping by sometimes to fast for me thats why I would like to see more retro things coming back like the Challenger but even that is out of reach to grasp to late I think considering the gas prices so much I could babble on, leave with saying let the good times roll.......

Did you ever get a chance to redyno your truck after resetting the fuel sync? Even 215 hp at the rwhp is good, that's better I was gettign with 92 with the 318 in it.

Message: Well, did my road trip last week - only drove it 202 miles, and it gave me 23.054 mpg. Going down was clear and warm; coming back was raining and cool. Computer said I was getting over 24 going down, and it dropped like a rock coming back, but gradually built back up. Filled up a couple miles before I got to the house, and it took 8.76 gallons. I'm sure that the 15 minutes that I sat idling at the airport garage checkout with the other 500 people trying to get out of there hurt the average a good bit, too. Problem is, you can't really shut it off and save anything in that kind of mess. Anyway - if I ever wear the Halo's out (and I like 'em), I'll try some E3's.
One thing I haven't tried is the injector sync. When I get some extra time one weekend, I'll do a little more research and try that.

Message: The 318 stock is right around 200 rear wheel
with just a few bolton's 230 is right there
average 180 to 200
The stock V6 is 120 140 rear wheel this with just
bolton's can be brought upto 155 with all the
other mods 175 can be hit with no internal engine
mods
And yes I finaly got down to Jacks sat evning and
we ran a dyno best of 3 was 228/288 torque so
that is right about what I had expected with the
cam and all the internal porting intake and heads
a 30 hp gain
Just doing the intake will net you 15hp from 3000
rpm to redline the hp however still drops off
around 4800rpm a stock motor will drop after 4400
I am still pulling 24mpg highway even down to
50 degree's and raining I still get that the one
night here we droped to 23 degrees and that morn
I drove to wausa between 35 to 40 degrees to pick
up some parts and it droped to 22.5 when its
below 0 19 20mpg is normal
Now don't laugh we ran 3 1/4 mile runs on his
track the best of 3 at 60 degrees around 60%
humidity the truck would not do any better than
15.02 my 3.58 stroker would do 14.4 the 4.0 stroke
motor will do 13.3
No rockets here but I still think even at 15 sec
these little dakotas are just a blast to drive

I glad you got your truck redynoed 228rwhp is pretty darn good, great torque numbers too. I think you have managed to squeeze just about all the hp you can out a stock engine without raising compression.

very strong
The heads all they need is a good cleanup and
polish removing as little material as posible the low end will drop off very fast if you remove to
much
unless you plan on running boost or nitrious this
is all you need to do
