Subject: Engine Rev freaks out IP: Logged
Message: this has happened to me a few times now since i did my exhaust so i assume it has something to do with that. All i did was remove the stock muffler and put in a glasspack. Also i have a v8 throttle body and air intake set up, colder plugs, removed the rubber flap for better air flow, and thats about it.
Now the problem/issue, about 10mintues ago i changed lanes and hit the gas to pass the other car, i was doing about 25-30 on a 35mph road and when i hit the gas and went WOT, the engine seemed like it almost downshifted and reved way high(5-6k rpm) for about 3seconds then shifted and went back to normal
the only reason i can think for that is i shift gears seconds before going WOT and the pcm gets that extra boost of power by downshifting
its a 3.9 with an automatic transmission, never messed with the shift points but at WOT now it shifts at around 4-4.5k rpm with all the extra air flow in and out
now if this is normal and im right about it downshifting to gain the extra power at higher rpms, wouldnt the computer recognize that its close to redline(or goes past it) and is in danger?
if theres no harm in what its doing the ill have peace of mind, but right now im worried its harming the engine

Message: no codes at all
yes its a 2001, i moved the flap by where the stock airbox used to be next to the radiator, used to protect the lines from debris
i suppose it could be a tps sensor, didnt think of that, i just figured since it started happening right after i did the exhaust and freed up the flow that it just gained a bit more power and downshifted
how could i tell if the tps is bad? i dont really wanna buy and install a new one(even though its simple and not really expensive) if thats not the problem, if there was a sure way to tell me thats it, then id get a new 1, but no codes, i checked

Message: going 25 30mph it should drop into 1st rev up and
hit 2nd
That is normal and first is low on these A500
transmissions and will rev and shift 2nd very
quickly
My truck with a 3.55 gear will rev 5000rpm than
shift second around 40mph 2nd will run 5000rpm
and shift into 3rd at 70mph
You can lower the shift points by just changing
the TV (throttle valve) cable
On your 01 take your thumb and 1 finger and gently
spread and remove the clip you will see a line
of plastic sticking up on the clip just move the
cable towards front of truck 1 move and reinstal
the clip
mounted part of cable
forward towards front of truck lower shifts
backwards towards back raises shift points
I have no rev limiter and I shift at 5200rpm at
WOT
If you raise the shift points to high it will
bounce off the rev limiter and you will need
to let off to shift the next gear
You should be shifting just below the rev limit
around 4600rpm the V6 rev limit is at 4800rpm
so your ok if it was not cutting out hitting
the limit
It just downshifted into low ran it out and
shifted nothing wrong there
